Acceptable Away Point

Having gone behind as early as the eighth minute, Notts County did well to strike back almost instantly to pick up a point away from home.

You can’t possibly deny that Martin Allen’s men will feel somewhat leggy after the week they’ve had, so what grounds can there be for turning down a draw in the middle of an eight hour round trip?

When Exeter took the lead, I wasn’t overly surprised. My preview of the game spoke of the complacency needed to be avoided or Notts would face a potential slip up. That the goal came from Alan Sheehan though was quite obviously a surprise!

The team spirit though of Allen’s men shone brightly once more though when Ben Burgess picked up his first goal of the season in equalising just seven minutes later. The big man’s second goal for the club comes on the back of great praise from The Dog and a solid display at Turin. We’re finally seeing what we wanted to out of Ben, promising signs!

The only other moments of note were the fifth booking (already?!) of the season for Sheehan (he now sits out the weekend’s action) and Neal Bishop cracking a tooth in half according to himself on Twitter!

The point changes little. We still sit in ninth place, with only Huddersfield in the teams immediately above us taking points tonight. A win in the next fixture and we can be in the playoff positions.

That next fixture might not be so easy though. The biggest story of the night was developing in Hertfordshire, where Saturday’s opponents Stevenage Town were handing out a sound 5-1 thrashing to Sheffield Wednesday.

Hopefully the newly promoted side though will have this all out of their system come 3pm Saturday!

The 1-1 scoreline did however light up the fortunes of many of those taking part in the TNB League.

A record 15 predictions came in absolutely spot on in the first game since Bournemouth over a week ago – many providing people with their first correct predictions! The action sees Sean and Jon consolidate their positions at the top of the table, whilst Tom Burrows and Robert leapfrog into second place.

Those bang on the money this time out were: Aaron Armstrong, Adam Parlett, David Stevenson, Fraser Dodds, Ian Howard, Jon Faulkner, Joseph Garner, Mark Holland, Matt Dawson, Neil Wilson, Paul Marriot, Robert Kent, Sean Mansfield, Tom Burrows, Tom Parker.
