Notts County’s first pre-season game ahead of the 2010/11 campaign saw them take on a club playing (officially) it’s first ever game – Ilkeston FC.
Once more i spoke with supporter Wayne Morledge to get his quick thoughts on the game in which he saw his Gary Ricketts score the new club’s first goal on their way to taking a 2-2 draw.
How was your day?
Superb, loved every minute of it. Us Ilkeston fans have all waited so long to see the team run out onto the pitch again that I didn’t really care what the score was going to be.
It also brought home how much I’ve missed the buzz at the ground and seeing people again that I haven’t seen for months. The only downside was that the match finished after 90 minutes, I would gladly have stayed to watch extra time and penalties too!
Who were your standout players from either side?
Gary Ricketts was his usual handful in the first half and I thought it was really fitting that he made history by becoming the very first goal-scorer for Ilkeston FC.
Our first half right winger, Will McCall, also looked a very good prospect as did Daryl Thomas in the second half.
For County I was impressed with Liam Chilvers who looked very calm and assured at the back and also Craig Westcarr who looked a threat whenever you went forward.
You must’ve been happy with the result?
Very happy. Any result would have been good but to get a draw was brilliant. Not many teams in the country can say that they are undefeated in their entire history!
Good luck to County this season and I’ll be keeping an eye out for your results.
Oh, one more thing, I’m glad your manager found his dog by the end of the game!
Thanks to Wayne for his efforts! Catch up with him on Twitter here!
