Opening Day

So the season kicks off on Saturday and all the optimism i spoke of in my season preview still seems to be be in the air!

Huddersfield Town are the visitors to Meadow Lane in a game i have to consider the game of the day for League One.

Two sides with great squads already that have been reinforced throughout the summer. It honestly would not surprise me to see both sides chasing automatic promotion as the season progresses.

As i see things now, Saturday is everything. Last season, Rotherham was huge. Rochdale was huge. Bradford, our opener last season, was huge. But they all mean nothing now, this is massive. The slate is wiped clean and we all start the climb again.

League Two is now but a (fantastic) memory but the fish to fry are considerably bigger now whilst we share a pool with the likes of tomorrow’s visitors and such massive names as Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic. The days of concerning ourselves with the likes of Accrington Stanley or Burton Albion thankfully are gone for now.

What a fantastic statement intent on Craig Short’s part it would be for us to get a convincing win against a side tipped (as are we) by so many pundits to be battling at the higher reaches of the table to set us up for the first few weeks of the season. Would certainly be echos of last season’s opening day that’s for sure!
